Sending
What you send with Enter joins one growing message, live for everyone, until you start a new one.
- Enter
- Sends what you wrote. Keep typing and press Enter again: it joins the same message.
- Shift+Enter
- A new line in the box. Nothing is sent.
- Ctrl+Enter or Enter ×3
- Sends on a new line of the same message. Once your message is more than 15 seconds old, it completes it instead: what you type next starts a new message. Enter three times in a row does the same, on phones too. While nobody has written below your message, that waits until it is 10 minutes old: someone writing alone keeps one message. Ctrl+Enter works from anywhere on a topic's page, outside other text boxes: it starts a new message when it may, or puts the cursor back at the end of yours.
Links and suggestions
At the start of a word, these signs open a list of suggestions while you type: click one, or use the arrow keys and Enter (or Tab); Escape closes the list.
- @username
- Mentions someone: they are notified and follow the topic, unless they unfollowed it.
- +role
- Notifies everyone with that role who can read the topic. Which roles you may tag is set by the administrators.
- #topic
- Links to a topic; once sent, it reads the topic's title.
- /category
- Links to a category.
- $tag
- Links to the topics with that tag.
- !command
- Runs a command, listed below. What you typed for it leaves the box.
Commands
Type ! at the start of a word in the box under a topic, then pick a command. The list shows the ones you may use there.
!image- Opens your files. The picture you choose goes at the end of your message, not sent yet.
!gif- Opens a search for GIFs, the popular ones first. The GIF you choose goes where your cursor is, not sent yet. Only when an administrator has turned GIFs on; they come from an outside service, which sees the address of everyone who searches or reads them.
!forward- Opens Forward for the message you are replying to (choose Reply on it first): pick a topic, recent ones first, or search for one. That topic opens with the message in a box over your new message, whole; write what you want to say with it and send. Forward under a message does the same.
!new-topic- Sends what you wrote, then opens New topic with your message as its first message: give it a title. When you were replying, the new topic continues from the message you replied to; that message gets a Continue topic button.
!poll- Sends what you wrote, then asks for a question, its answers, whether several answers may be chosen and how many hours it stays open (decimals work, at most 168). The poll goes under your message, one per message; with nothing written, it is posted on its own. Anyone who may post here votes and may change their vote until it closes; the counts show once you voted, and to everyone once it closed. Nobody sees who voted for what.
!schedule- Posts the text you have not sent yet in a number of hours (decimals work, at most 168). Only you see it until then, under the box, where Cancel takes it back. It is posted as one finished message, marked scheduled message.
!spoiler- Sends what you wrote and hides your message behind a blur, with a Reveal spoiler button; quotes and search results show (spoiler) instead of its words. Type !spoiler:overlay text: (ending with a colon, and no colon in the text) to show those words over it instead, also on a message hidden already; quotes then show (spoiler: overlay text). Choose !spoiler again to show it plainly. To hide only part of a message, put || on each side of it.
Hiding part of a message
||text||- Hides those words until each reader clicks them (or selects them and presses Enter). Quotes, search results and notifications show (spoiler) instead. To hide the whole message, use !spoiler.
